Plant is comprised of: leaves, stem and branches, root, fruits (fruits, vegetable fruits, nuts, seeds)

Leaves and stems are usually rich in fibers and complex carbohydrates, they are the most desirable plant components from the weight loss prospective.

Edible roots and fruits of the plant are often the plant components responsible for preservation of energy for the plant (in case of roots), or for the new plant (in case of fruits or nuts). Many low carb diets recommend avoiding starchy vegetables which are most of the time plant roots such as potatoes, beets or fruits such as squash.

Nuts are the kind of fruits, usually from the trees, which preserve most of the energy in the shape of fats, and usually good variety of fats. They are generally good for us, but should be accounted for their high calorie content.

Grains are the other variety of fruit-kind of parts of the grasses. When we are talking about the whole grain, we are talking about the grain that contains all natural components – outer layers, a baby plant and carbs preserved in the grain for a future baby plant. When the grains are refined, the only part that is left after refining is a starch, with most of the layers and a baby plant removed. Those removed parts are rich in fibers, vitamins and microelements. In fact when the wheat started to refined, in the beginning many people who relied on it as a primary food source, started all over suddenly to get sick and even die. Nowadays all refined wheat flour is artificially infused with vitamins after the process of refining.
