If you say that you are motivated to lose weight, I would ask my next question – “why”. What is “motivation”. I think motivation is just a ranking by importance of different values that we want to accomplish. If you want to get motivated lose weight – you need to find many reasons why you want to lose it. The reasons need to be – immense, immediate and long standing. For example, would you lose 10 pounds in a month in exchange for $10? What about in exchange for a $100? For a $1000 000? The odds go up dramatically. Perception makes any reason immense or not… And it probably doesn’t even matter if you would actually get the promised million at the end, what matters is your belief that you will have it… Immediate. Let’s rephrase the above example – would you lose 10 pounds in exchange for a million dollars to be given to you in 30 years? May be, or may be not. It is our human nature to prefer immediate rewards or punishments. It is our biological survival instinct. And finally permanent – would a promise of a million dollars every month for the rest of your life would make you to keep your weight steady afterwards? Lessons: when you logically motivate yourself – look for immense, immediate and indefinite motivations. Also, the best motivations are the ones that you can visualize and present as a virtual reality to your subconscious mind, but this is a topic for a separate discussion.
